The older model of cameras when plugged in using the standard mini USB lead used to be recognizes as a drive letter device. The latest cameras from Fuji we are using are the Finepix S6500 which includes built in software on the camera telling Windows XP that the camera is a specific media camera and not a letter drive, therefore Windows XP now threats them as a media type such as it would do with a scanner or printer (Image provided as an example) To get round this, we have been removing the memory card from the camera to plug into a memory card reader and uploading from there as a letter drive. The problem is that by using the memory card, quite often images get corrupted with dirt and scratches on the metal contact strips on the memory card. We need a solution, so that windows can recognize the camera as a drive letter again instead of a camera media device, when plugging in the camera using the USB lead again. The scanner would scan the bar code on that back of student ids and the software program would not only save bar code information but then be able to connect other data to that bar code information, such as age, race, residence, GPA and then be able to aggregate that data in a visual format. The information about age, race, residence, GPA for example would most likely flow from the college databases and this software program must be able to connect with that database, copy specific user designated fields of information based on the list of bar codes collected, and then be able to present that data in either a graph or excel format. The software program may run or either Windows XP or the various forms of Linux.
